Every evening there is always a power cut for sometime. Most houses in Aizawl have power backup by way of Power Inverter and battery that can power a bunch of tube lights, TV and even computers. We don’t have that. We just got a minimal backup for the kitchen and living room. This means I am left in the dark in my room.

An UPS Inverter enough to light a few tube lights for sometime. Power cut is pretty much a part of our life in India, anywhere. Even in the metros.
But I have my own backup.
I live in the basement and the folks upstairs didn’t know about this for sometime. They were wandering how I managed to sit in the dark for so long.
On the right is a camping lantern from Decathlon powered by four AA batteries. On the left I have an LED lamp plugged into the USB port of my laptop. My laptop battery lasts for at least two hours. I carry the camping lantern on my recent trips and it proved to be very useful.
I bought the LED light from ebay for 450 rupees, about 8 USD. If you don’t mind a longer shipping time, you can get it cheaper from DealExtreme.
